The M1 products are seriously cool, I like them a lot and now own 3 in fact, but I wouldn't build my main editing rig around one. How much of that is just the limits of the M1 and how much of that is BMD marketing getting a bit carried away I'm not sure. It may be faster when I come around to exporting, but for actual use when editing, I'm hard pressed to tell the difference. I've also just upgraded to 17.3 on my maxed out 16GB RAM M1 Mini and I'll be honest, I can't tell a difference in my UHD 30fps BRAW based projects. It's amazing for sure that something as tiny as a MacBook Air can work with RAW video useably at all, but the moments grades get involved you start to hit the RAM and GPU compute limits pretty fast (remember the GPU used a shared pool of RAM with the CPU). This may change with the upcoming higher performance Apple Silicon, but as of right now it's impressive but not going to replace a dedicated GPU quite yet. But there's no escaping the fact that the M1 GPU is still a part of a larger SoC. I love the M1 Macs, they offer excellent performance for the price, it's seriously impressive. As someone who works using Resolve on Linux, Windows and MacOS for a living.
